the poem that took the place of elephant trunks (a metapoem hat tip to Wallace Stevens)
the poem that took the place of elephant trunks (a metapoem hat tip to Wallace Stevens)
there it was. number for number,
the poem that took the place of elephant trunks.
every equation set to music.
letters of value adding up to the word.
she inhaled old oxygen mindful of her carbon,
even as the space telescope added color to stardust.
tides wash away the trepidation,
she commanded mountains to recompose as celestial pillars.
slight tilt to the right thumbed obliquity,
axis remained pointing in the same direction.
there it was. she brought the sun down to earth,
so galaxies could see the psalm of her being.
coming to the end of imagination, lying on the dark desert floor,
she found her own space with voices of echolalia surrounding.
she is everything from the pillars of creation…
