The Other Side of The Mountain

The Other Side of The Mountain

In perpetuity:

listen to the other side of the mountain...

The black hills of Dakota hold a truth.

The black hills of the Lakota are the keystone.

Six grandfathers of cougar mountain

reign over an unfinished sculpture

honeycombed, dynamited, carved

to decry the Treaty of Fort Laramie,

Sacred land returned to be stolen again.

The Black Hills War of The Great Sioux...

renamed Mount Crazy Horse. Come Klan.

Now it’s 2020 and the last carver is dead,

fireworks perchlorates still contaminate.

Original people still refuse the settlement

and the land refuses the crumbling shrine of democracy...
