the goal is not to hide the repair

but to honor the damage sashiko style. 

from biscornu patiently pull a needle 

and thread tying the little knot 

at the end to stop, then place the patch

on the underside to frame and celebrate

the tear. leave the frayed edges to be seen 

from where once a thigh peeped through 

in the style of imperfections, but know

everyone was made in the creator’s image

of incompleteness to render reverence.

flags of lost causes sewn over forever. final.

the little stabs now cleaned and honored 

pull away untied in the therapy of knots. noose

13 loops in the zone of the flow shake lose

of illusory time. they heed to the will bending

the stitch to reveal the crisscross ease 

of beeswax in shades of satisfaction. 13 stars

in these surroundings, I found myself in the race

in the shadows of a frayed world listening
