Pudibundus -House, the Vulgar of Home
On the wall one pale tussock,
caleteara pudibunda. a red tail moth
named for Merian, the famous
butterfly and insect painter.
Yet, still this is just a house,
the vulgar of home.
Opened to its page
in a stained coffee table book,
world register of marine species (WORM).
classification: animalia (kingdom)
arthropoda (phylum) crustacea (subphylum)
class: subclass: common: a blushing crab
named hepatus pudibunda.
Yet, still this is just a house,
the vulgar of home.
Surrounded by the sweet song
of a canyon canastero,
faded red tail on a stone, food in its bill.
Little ovenbird, asthenes pudibunda,
builds his nest in the corner
entertaining peruvian vacationers.
Yet, still this is just a house,
the vulgar of home.
Swallow pain modestly,
reading out loud from that special chair
of the women who fought like demons,
female soldiers of the civil war.
Consumed by the whole, almost forgotten
in oppression by omission,
more conventional history
from that house that is just a house,
the vulgar of home.
pudibundus,
shamefaced pudibundus,
the world has caved in a time or two
but don’t be consumed by the devastation.
Instead be in awe at the love, at the hope,
at such a life shared. At the power few get to touch
from their vulgar houses,
when yours is such a home!
