All Flowers Drop
who can say when spring ends all flowers drop?
before the great year’s midnight,
the lady was a great man, deflowered,
first to declare the sun too bright.
rivers became separated from fountains,
and the sky no longer mingled with mountains,
the flowers grew sentient,
daylilies felt pain and blood orchids bled,
eyes see only hemorrhage red.
sweet silly man lies in made bed,
dark cave comfort memory of personified glory,
dreaming of flirting with cinnamon terpsichory.
born of cold seduction quick, quick, slow death;
come three, come perfection, come love
rushing in the water, striking air, crying out.
driven off course, twists and turns brought tenth earth.
she was just his instrument of supreme power,
spirit of the clouds and waters, performing
for the philosopher, sage, and prodigy,
now the flowers grow taller than the trees.
bearer of knowledge ate the forbidden pearls.
earth bound beings finally able to defeat gravity,
charming the mountains, charming the sea.
charming lover, never look back on vertigo.
sing your soul’s song, keeping young and free.
count your hand, count your cards, the count
cajoles lovers to pass through the mirror and land.
believing absurdities they committed atrocities,
let it be all torn to pieces, let it be, let it bleed,
predatory arthropod stung thrice, turning fifths.
lost desert, lost forest, lost flowers of olympus,
statues of bad seed taste bliss,
as candide left eldorado, for another false edenic cultivation.
now no one can resurrect the sand,
all law changed and midnight fell dark upon man.
flowered tongues speak to the scorpion,
declaring this the best of all possible worlds.
magnolias had the final word after the comet,
throwing thorned roses at dyson trees.
touch me nots gasped new air to breathe.
man must sleep the long sleep of waiting,
as space poplars reawaken a new tree of life.
worlds within worlds grow wildly,
xylem scaffolding hold up the bioship
and the kudzu runs licking the coral ship’s hand.
the muir trees and sycamores looked small,
and still listened to the human heart beat, directing it all.
dancing plants danced with mimosas,
groping plants loosened boundaries on the dark,
and the stinking carrion corpse grew sweet as dandelion.
flowers thrived on the light of the new horizon.
in perfect time woman came before the man,
everyone sung from a flower.
blooms last forever, anemones blow on empty wind,
zephyr mingled lilies with hyacinth making one,
changing white to red to purple at whim.
the jewel in the lotus tamed narcissus.
sunflowers no longer grow lovesick following faces.
fruits no longer need the flower. butterflies are anklets.
and everything flies with the songbird in this new land of plenty,
born from juice of plum blossom blankets.
